Home Again Los Angeles, HALA, was created by a group of dedicated volunteers including local congregation leaders as a means to help situationally homeless families who at times are not as visible as the chronic homeless population. One of our founding board members, Jennifer Greene-Smith, had learned about the Family Promise National organization when she was studying. Jennifer, along with Pastor Paul Clairville from Westminster Presbyterian, brought the idea to our community and soon after community meetings began to take place. From 2008-2010 several fundraisers took place in order to raise funds to open our doors. Many community meetings took place to develop our name, by-laws, board of directors and hire staff.  It was during this time that we created what we were then known as, Family Promise of the East San Fernando Valley.

It was in July 2010 when the board of directors and staff opened its doors to provide shelter for the very first family.
t was for the next four years that the organization worked diligently in providing supportive services while our partners, local congregations, provided overnight accommodations and meals.

In 2014, FPV temporarily shut its doors down to regroup and strategize on ways to raise funds and continue helping families experiencing homelessness. In 2014, an annual benefit was held which raised awareness of the organizations mission while raising much needed funds.

In July 2015, the board of directors hired a new Chief Executive Officer, Albert Hernandez, who helped rebuild the organization. It was from 2015 until present time that the organization raised funds, partnered with new foundation and cities to expand services including adopting new programs such as rapid rehousing, transitional housing, homeless prevention and more. The organization grew from a staff of 2 to 14, with three sites including 2 in Burbank and 1 in Glendale. Today we continue to support our most vulnerable population by offering unique programming that has resulted in over 600 homeless families moving back into permanent housing since 2010.
